Beau, a fantastic new restaurant tucked away on Warehouse Lane in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter, is the latest dining concept from Chef Lottie Noren, who was one of four Northern Irish representatives on The Great British Menu 2024.

Sister restaurant of the brilliant Edō, Beau is all about championing local flavours in a relaxed, welcoming environment. The minimalist interior in neutral tones creates a cool contemporary vibe, and the double-aspect open kitchen provides elements of culinary theatre.

We started with some stunningly good cocktails, a Chilli Margarita with Espolòn, Orange, Triple Sec, Lime, Smoked Salt, and dotted with Chilli Oil, and an Olive Oil Martini with Boatyard Gin, Regal Rogue, Olive Oil, and a Salt & Pepper Brine to make it deliciously dirty!

We then enjoyed a snack of Potted Shrimp with Brown Butter on Sourdough Toast, and a fresh and zingy Langoustine Ceviche with a wonderfully vibrant green chive emulsion.

Continuing with the seafood theme, we had a rich, creamy Butter-Poached Halibut & Brown Crab, and a whole Salt Baked Sea Bream, served on the bone, with Dulse Butter. Superb, especially when paired with a bottle of Sella & Mosca Vermentino di Sardegna DOC.

The vegetable accompaniments are also delicious; don’t miss out on the Hassleback Comber Potatoes with a moreish Smoked Butter Cream, and the outstandingly good grilled Baby Gem in an umami-rich anchovy dressing!

To finish, a great Irish Cheese selection and a pretty Lemon Meringue tart.

Beau is an absolute triumph, and we can’t wait to go back to enjoy another evening of excellent food, drink, and service, right in the heart of the city.

The restaurant uses the best local produce to create a contemporary menu with plenty of choice for all tastes.

We were invited to try the Beat The Clock menu, and we were extremely impressed; from the attentive service, to the exceptionally tasty dishes, everything was first rate.

Our starters were delicious; a Whipped Irish Goats Cheese with a candied beetroot salad, blood orange, and pickled walnuts, and  beautifully plated Local Crab & Ewings Smoked Salmon, with pickled fennel salad, apple, and a dill emulsion.

Main courses were equally good; crispy-skinned Pan Seared Seabass with crushed baby potato, spinach, & cockle popcorn in a white wine cream, and Roast Monkfish on a spiced lentil dahl with yoghurt, poppadom, and pickled vegetables. Superb!

We love a Pinot Noir-in our opinion, a great red to pair with seafood-and the French Les Nuages was definitely right up our street!

Desserts were also amazing; a fruity, crunchy, Blueberry Creme Brûlée with shortbread, and an oozy Pistachio Chocolate Fondant with white chocolate ice cream and cherry coulis.

Beat the Clock is available Monday to Sunday from 17:00-20:00 when diners can enjoy two courses for  £28.95, or three for £32.95 (supplements apply.)
