Mourne Seafood Bar, Belfast

https://www.mourneseafood.com/

Mourne Seafood Bar in Belfast has built its success on a celebration of fresh, sustainable, locally sourced seafood and has had enormous praise from top critics, including the Observer Food Monthly Awards.

On our recent visit, we began with a few tasty nibbles- Crispy Whitebait, and Smoked Salmon Pâté with Melba Toast.

We then enjoyed main dishes of Grilled Grey Sole on the bone served with sweet potato & carrot purée, crispy capers, romanesco, & garlic mussels, and a Mourne Seafood favourite of Ginger Beer Battered Langoustine Tails with a creamy Caesar Salad.

It’s always a pleasure to visit this popular City Centre institution to enjoy freshly prepared, high quality seafood dishes.

Havana Bank Square

Tucked away on the corner of Chapel Lane and Berry Street is Havana Bank Sq, a smashing little Bistro with a modern, contemporary menu, a quality wine list, and excellent service.

We decided to go “all-out vegan”, so tempting did the dishes sound; no boring chickpea curry on this meat-free menu!

To start, we shared some Crispy Chilli Ginger Mushroom Wontons which were drizzled with a spicy peanut oil and served with pickled mooli.

Two of us plumped for two very different but equally satisfying burgers, one a Korean Fried Cauliflower Burger with pickled red cabbage, vegan cheese & mayo, and the other a Mushroom Seitan Burger with crispy vegan bacon, mac sauce and gherkins. Both were served with perfectly crispy fries.

But as good as these burgers were, the star of the show for us was the Salt Baked Celeriac served with red cabbage, charred broccolini, salsa verde & hasselback potatoes. An absolutely delicious  dish. Havana Bank Sq has top notch vegan fare which could convert even the most committed carnivore!

And luckily we had just enough room to share the dessert of the day, a cocoa-rich and very moreish Chocolate & Salted Caramel Pie.

Watch out for great things in the future from this terrific city centre restaurant, and its neighbouring bar, “The Sagart”. We can’t wait to see what’s in store.
