As midwinter holds us firmly in its frosty grasp, Spanish Sunshine is never too far away at 2Taps Winebar. With its delicious Mediterranean inspired dishes, fabulous heated outdoor terrace and a brand new menu, 2Taps is the perfect escape from the January blues.
We were delighted to have been invited to try the new Tapas menu, which is a triumph; delicious small plates, authentically Spanish in style with a contemporary twist.
We started with a glass of fizz and some gorgeous toasted Bakari breads with tapenade, olive oil & balsamic vinegar.
The seafood choices are superb; Grilled Scallops with Apple, Shellfish Bisque, Turnip & Nettle, a crispy Chargrilled Seabass on Lobster Bisque Hollandaise with Crayfish & Celeriac, and an incredible Chargrilled Octopus with Chilli and Lime Romesco.
There are some great meat-free choices too. The Chargrilled Corn with Vegan Nduja was a spicy delight, and the Chargrilled Romaine Lettuce with Fennel, and the ubiquitous Padron Peppers with Smoked Sea Salt & Lime (no self-respecting Tapas menu would be complete without them) were perfect accompaniments.
To finish, the creamy Pistachio, Honey, Fig, Feuille de Brick & Orange was a Mediterranean delight, and the rather excellent European Cheese Selection, with cheeses from Spain to Scandinavia, & a tangy Pineapple Napalm Salsa from the brilliant Bangor-based Habanero Steve’s, was a great dessert alternative.
And it would be criminal not to have a jug of 2 Taps’ infamous Sangria to wash it all down with! Salud!!
