Edo

One of our favourite Belfast city centre restaurants, EDŌ, serves modern sharing style dishes, and is perfect for enjoying a range of taste experiences through a flexible, award-winning menu.

To begin, we sipped on some excellent cocktails; the ā€œVelvet Forestā€ with hints of chocolate and cherry, and the ā€œSinners Delightā€ with sweet, floral notes, were both fantastic.

We then had a few ā€œPara Picarā€ dishes of Pimientos de Padrón, and Potato & Truffle Croquettes while we perused the menu.

From the ā€œVerdurasā€ section we loved the Roast Beetroot with Vegan Cheese, the Jerusalem Artichoke, and the Cauliflower Cheese & Truffle.

We also enjoyed the ā€œFriturasā€ of Langoustine Fritters with Tartare Sauce, and Chilli Glazed Chicken Wings.

To follow, the seafood dishes were simply stunning; a whole Salt Baked Sea Bream with Portavogie Prawns & Herb Butter, and a beautiful Paella with Monkfish, Mussels and Langoustines. There’s also an earthy Duck Liver Paella with Sweet Onions & Truffle.

Desserts are to die for; authentic Spanish Style Chocolate Churros, Orange Olive Oil Sponge & Cinnamon Ice Cream, Chocolate Mousse, and a special request of Ice Cream drizzled with Pedro Ximenez. Delicious!

EDŌ: excellent food, delicious wine choices, and outstanding service.

Fratelli

Fratelli Ristorante on Great Victoria Street has a rustic yet contemporary interior, a family friendly, informal environment, with a focus on simple, quality Italian dishes.

We called in for a bite to eat for a birthday celebration. From traditional pizza and pasta dishes, to authentic cicchetti perfect for sharing, and not to mention delicious hand-crafted mini desserts, Fratelli serves up an Italian feast to suit all tastes, including great meat-free options on the Vegan menu.

We particularly enjoyed the Cicchetti of Calamari, Quattro Formaggi Arancini, Fried Mozzarella, and SautƩed Scampi, the Florentine Pizza with spinach and oozy eggs, and the Parmesan Gnocchi special with pistachio pesto and mixed greens.

Brackfield Twenty Nine

Brackfield 29, a fantastic range of quality artisan condiments produced by Peter Galbraith in East Belfast, is available in many local shops & delis.

Over the Christmas holidays we tried a few of the chutneys & relishes at a party (thanks Marty @dishyouwerehere) & loved the deliciously different flavours such as blood orange & chilli.

But our favourite was the zingy lime & sweet pepper chilli jam, perfect with a creamy Pie D’Angloys.  The condiments are all gluten free, suitable for vegetarians & are ideal with meat, cheese or as a marinade, dip, or dressing.
