Ballymena Means Something For Everyone

We had heard that Ballymena, always well regarded as a town full of traders, had some brilliant retail and hospitality outlets. So, armed with a Ballymena Gift Card (more details HERE), which can be spent in over 100 stores and can be bought online or at kiosks in both shopping centres, we set off to suss out the “shopportunities”!
Starting in the brilliant couture chocolate shop and café, “Chocoa”, we wet our whistles and got ready for some serious retail therapy (the artisanal chocolates are amazing, and would make excellent Easter gifts).
We found some gorgeous pocket watches at Robert Adair Jewellers: perfect for a birthday surprise (hint, hint!) We also had a sneak peek at the workshop upstairs, which was absolutely fascinating. Thank you Stuart, Jonathan, Hannah and Lindsay.
Ballymena has some great independent clothes shops, and we were very impressed with the range of men’s clothing in the cavernous Wallace’s and the legendary Sam’s, which also houses Laird Law Male Grooming with their glorious handlebar moustache logo!
We stumbled across a delightful little gift shop called “Just” which is a treasure trove of tasteful trinkets, and there are lots of other independent stores making the retail offering unique compared to other towns and cities, as well as two major shopping centres, the Tower Centre, and Fairhill.
There’s ample parking at £2.00 all day if you arrive before 9.30am in Alexander Street Car Park.
Ballymena has some great independent food stores and eateries; “Freshways” is a super little greengrocers with fantastic fresh produce, and we also enjoyed a leisurely lunch in The Grouse with a pint and some top notch pub grub.
Before heading home, we called into The Front Page for a quick tot of whiskey, and within half an hour we were back in Belfast, our bags packed with goodies!
