Capparelli at the Mill Review – September 2025

Capparelli at the Mill

Having already been bowled over by the delightful cafe-deli at Capparelli at the Mill a couple of weeks ago, we couldn’t wait to dine in the newly opened restaurant, which serves delicious dishes inspired by the vibrant flavours of the Mediterranean.

Chef Carlos previously worked with Gordon Ramsay at the Maze Grill, and had been Head & Executive Chef with the Ottolenghi group, and wife Lucie worked in top PR and marketing agencies in London and Belfast. They also created the award-winning Capparelli pasta brand, and now, this wonderful venue in which to enjoy superb dishes in a stunning water mill on the outskirts of Dundonald.

We started with a couple of cocktails, and a selection of excellent small plates, ideal for sharing; silky smooth Hummus with Pumpkin Seeds and Sweet Chilli Shattah, sweet and salty Kale Borani with Vadouvan Brown Butter & Golden Raisins, and a wonderful Pan Con Tomate with Anchovies, transporting us straight to the Iberian peninsula with its authentic Catalan flavours.

Off to Sicily next with a hearty bowl of Casarecce alla Norma with Smoked Aubergine, Tomato, Paprika, & sprinkled with Parmesan. The Chicken Milanese with Cabbage, Tahini Dressing, & Lemon was also superb, especially accompanied by a refreshing House Salad with Pickled Shallots & Pomegranate Vinaigrette.

To finish, the light Apricot & Polenta Cake with Creme Fraiche was the perfect way to finish this terrific meal. We can’t wait to make a return visit.
