The official start of summer may be a month away, but recent bursts of good weather have put people in Northern Ireland in a summer state of mind, according to the results of a new poll.
Ireland’s number one tequila brand, Jose Cuervo, set out to discover Ireland’s top highlights – the things that make you think ‘aahhh, summer is here’.
Ditching the traditional evening meal, and opting for lighter food choices topped the multiple choice poll, with 57% of people saying ‘picnics, tacos and picky bit dinners’ signalled the start of summer.
Lighter clothing came a close second, with 51% of respondents saying you know Irish summer has officially arrived when it’s ‘no coat weather.’
Summer sips closely followed with ‘Rooftop bar views’ (47%) and ‘Cocktail Hour with Friends’ (44%) ranking third and fourth, whilst ‘Beach Days’ claimed fifth place with 40% of the vote.
The poll results are released by Jose Cuervo today on World Paloma Day today (May 22), which celebrates the trending summer cocktail, the Paloma – a refreshing mix of tequila, lime juice and grapefruit soda.
The pretty pink drinks will be seen on cocktail menus throughout Ireland this week, and throughout the summer as the refreshing long drink is poised to knock the G&T off the top spot for summer refreshment.

Mixing the perfect Paloma is easy.
You’ll need:
50ml Especial Silver Tequila
5ml lime juice
Grapefruit soda to top up
Garnish: grapefruit, salt
How to make it:
Add ice, then pour in tequila and lime juice.
Top up with grapefruit soda and enjoy!
