Overwood at Balloo House – December 2023

Overwood at Balloo House

What a treat to enjoy the Overwood at Balloo House Festive Sunday Menu in the gorgeous first floor Overwood, with its luxurious leather seats, fabulous gilt-framed mirrors, crystal chandeliers and a covered cocktail terrace with fire pit: the perfect spot for a catch-up with a special group of friends.

Starters included a Wild Mushroom Arancini with roast garlic mayo, parmesan and watercress salad, drizzled with truffle vinaigrette, a Prawn and Smoked Salmon Cocktail with Marie Rose sauce, semi-dried tomatoes and moist wheaten bread, and Salt & Chilli Squid with Napa Slaw, garlic aioli and chilli oil.

Balloo House excels in fresh seafood dishes, and the Smoked Atlantic cod with seasonal veg and a white wine cream, and the special of Pan Fried Sea Bass with baked leek, endive, fennel, coral cream and baby boiled potatoes were both excellent.

And for those looking for a meat-free option, the Chestnut, Mushroom and Pumpkin Seed Roast served with traditional veg, mash and roast potatoes with a towering Yorkshire Pudding and lashings of gravy was comfort food at its best.

With the emphasis on provenance, flavour and a warm welcome, it is unsurprising that Balloo House has been awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand.
