The dictionary definition of “lineage” states a direct descent from an ancestor; ancestry or pedigree. And this couldn’t be more apt due to owner Finley’s close family connection to the former butcher’s shop before it was finally turned into a café.

And the reinvented “Lineage” certainly has an excellent pedigree, with its speciality coffee, tasty brunch style dishes, and homemade bakes.

We had a summery Warm Chicken & Bacon Caesar Salad with extra halloumi, and a vegetarian version of the Italian Toastie with sundried tomato, mozzarella, freshly made pesto, and rocket, served with a side salad.

And the sweet treats are not to be missed; from delicious berry and white chocolate scones and cinnamon rolls made in house, to lemon shortbread and carrot cake from Fjord Bakery, make sure to leave room and indulge in a beautiful bake!

Opening Hours Monday-Saturday (8am-5pm)

29 Downpatrick Street, Crossgar.

We enjoyed some tasty, authentic Vietnamese cuisine in Belfast’s St. Anne’s Square at Madame Pho.

The Small Plates are perfect for a light lunch, and the fresh Summer Rolls are a great favourite of ours; softened rice paper rolls stuffed with deliciously fresh shredded vegetables, herbs, rice vermicelli, pickled daikon, and prawns served with a peanut sauce.

We can never resist a bean curd dish, and the Crispy Tofu, Broccoli and Aubergine Rice Plate is a satisfying meat free option, as are the Crispy Cauliflower Wings with vegan Sriracha Mayo, and the Stir-Fried Broccoli in Garlic.

From Curry Dishes and Banh Mi, to fabulous vegetarian options and healthy Noodle Soups, Madame Pho has something to suit all tastes.

Ballygally Castle celebrates its 400th anniversary this year. We were delighted to be staying in one of the hotel’s renovated Coastal Rooms featuring, elegant fabrics, stylish furnishings, & a colour palette perfectly complementing the sea views. And the excellent “Relax, Dine & Stay” package is a mix of relaxation, discovery, & cuisine including overnight accommodation, a three-course dinner, & a full Irish breakfast each morning.

The hotel’s 54 tastefully decorated bedrooms are full of character and charm. No wonder Ballygally Castle is affectionately dubbed “the jewel in the Hastings Crown”, offering the perfect combination of history, hospitality, and spectacular scenery.
