Six by Nico

As a particularly bleak January thankfully approaches its wintry conclusion, Six by Nico sets its sights on the season of romance with its gorgeous new menu, āLost in Parisā.

We were delighted to be invited to experience the delicious new dishes which have been inspired by the city of love; quiet dining rooms tucked away from the crowds, classic bistros championing refined techniques, and luxurious establishments serving sophisticated haute cuisine.
Seated at our table adorned with single stem roses, we enjoyed snacks and aperitifs followed by a wonderful six course meal.

It would be difficult to pick a favourite, and part of the joy of Six by Nico is that element of surprise and delight in the unexpected, so weāll not say too much, but we particularly enjoyed the Poireau GrillĆ© with barbecued leeks and GruyĆØre topped with piquant pickled walnuts, the Poisson au Vin Rouge with fillet of Black Pollock and a rich lobster and red wine jus, and theCromesquis de Champignons: a smoky, earthy mushroom parfait with salt baked celeriac, which was a fantastic vegetarian option.
The cocktail and wine pairings are both excellent; how fabulous to see a light Domaine Peiriere Pinot Noir Reserve paired with the fish course, and a SĆ©millon ChĆ¢teau Bonnet Sauvignon Blanc with the Tartare de BÅuf! And the āLe Maraisā was a cognac, dry vermouth, Cabernet reduction, and aromatic bitters concoction. Like a Gallic Manhattan, but even better!
The desserts are always a triumph at Six By Nico, and āLost in Parisā offers not one, but two absolute corkers.
The Crème Brûlée was outstanding with cocoa nib, milk jam, poached pear & sherry, and no trip to Paris is complete without an indulgent hot chocolate; thick, rich, poured slowly and served with whipped cream, this cocoa rich treat is available as an optional add-on.
āLost in Parisā is available from 26th January until 8th March. The six course tasting menu is Ā£45, with French wine pairing at Ā£30, and cocktail pairing at Ā£40.
Nouveau Holywood
Website HERE
Another great new addition to the Holywood restaurant scene, Nouveau serves contemporary European dishes in an Art Nouveau inspired space with two dining options.
Downstairs, an informal āFlights & Bitesā menu with a selection of small plates and wines by the glass, ideal for sharing, and on the first floor, a beautiful dining room, serving Ć la carte dishes in luxurious surroundings.
We were looking for somewhere special for a celebration dinner, and Nouveau was the perfect choice. We were seated in the upstairs restaurant, which had a sophisticated retro vibe, and we enjoyed a terrific meal.

To start, the gougères with black truffle and shaved comté cheese were light, fluffy and surprisingly generous in size, oozing mature cheddar sauce when cut into: definitely more than a mouthful!
We also had some homemade focaccia with āloaded olive oilā and aged balsamic, and a smooth shitake mushroom parfait with pickled walnut, crispy shallot, and soda bread.
For some, chicken kiev may be considered a āblast from the pastā, but this was a wonderful reinvention, fragrant with truffle and stuffed with a wild mushroom butter, alongside a tomato & red pepper piperade. And the herb crusted cod with warm tartare, trout roe beurre blanc, sea herbs and crispy breaded mussels, was moist flaky, and delicious.
Of course, we can never resist a plant-based option, especially when itās as tasty as Nouveauās roast celeriac wellington, with crunchy dukkah crusted carrots, smooth parsnip puree, and a jug of rich port jus: as classic and comforting as it sounds, and the side of steamed brassica with a chilli & lemon vinaigrette was the perfect accompaniment.
To finish the evening, we ordered one of Nouveauās excellent desserts; a basque-style baked cheesecake topped with dulce de leche, with tropical hints of coconut and pineapple.
Nouveauās elegant coziness provides the ideal surroundings to enjoy its delightful French-inspired dishes. Nouveau? DestinĆ© Ć la grandeur!
