PEPITO

Website HERE

Pepito brings an Iberian vibe to the Upper Newtownards Rd with its stunning Spanish-style small plates paired with some great European wines, and a fine selection of vermuts, aperitivo, and slow sippers.

Since opening its doors earlier this year, Pepito has been a runaway success, so we were lucky to get the last table on a busy Saturday night.

We enjoyed a terrific variety of delicious sharing plates;  Runny Baked Brie with white wine, garlic & rosemary, Pan con Tomate topped with salted anchovies, Roast Padron Peppers sprinkled with smoked sea salt & a squeeze of lemon, Dressed Hummus with cruditĆ©s & crispy shards, and sensational Chestnut Mushrooms with roast garlic, earthy parsnip pureĆ© & fried quail’s eggs.

The fish dishes are fantastic, and we loved the Crispy Cod Cheeks with aioli, and Cath’s Sizzling Portavogie Prawns with chilli, chorizo & crusty bread for dipping.

For meat lovers, the Moroccan Spiced Lamb Flatbread with hummus, fattoush & pomegranate, and the Slow Cooked Moroccan spiced chicken with couscous, were packed with North African flavours. And of course, it wouldn’t be tapas without ordering a portion of spicy, garlicky Patatas Bravas!

For dessert, we had the festive Christmas Pudding Fritters with rum & raisin ice cream, Affogato with PX Sherry, creamy Tiramisu, and a superb Basque Cheesecake with gloriously burnt edges.

Pepito: wonderfully authentic tapas-style plates in the heart of East Belfast.

The Ivy, Belfast

We spent Christmas Eve in The Ivy with friends, and what a gorgeously opulent festive experience it was. We ordered from both the Set Menu & the Ć  la carte, and we particularly loved the Buffalo Mozzarella with truffle honey, the Crispy Tempura Nobashi Prawns, the Irish Monkfish & Prawn Curry, & the spicy Lentil & Aubergine Bake.
