Crossing Derryās Peace Bridge, with its stunning views of the city, we could see Stitch & Weave on the banks of the river, and couldnāt wait to enjoy a meal and a few drinks in this great venue, where the opportunity to take in the cityās iconic sights are not to be missed.
Stitch and Weave has a cosy bistro style atmosphere, with its pretty lighting, warm stone and timber interior, and nods to the shirt-making industry, with a menu which has a strong emphasis on seasonal, local produce.

We began our evening, at a glorious river view table, with a couple of cocktails from the Whiskey Menu (we instantly knew weād love this place!) A Sazerac with Bulleit Rye whiskey, and a lemony, gingery Penicillin- just what the doctor ordered!
We chose our starters; one, a sizzling dish of King Prawns in a fiery smoked paprika & garlic chilli oil, with flat leaf parsley and toasted sourdough, the other, a totally outrĆ© (in a very good way) tangy Goat’s Cheese & Honey Mousse with pickled and purĆ©ed beetroot, a sweet and savoury beetroot ice cream, and crunchy gingerbread toast! Sensational!
To follow, a deliciously moist Chicken Supreme stuffed with onion, spinach, rocket, garlic, & parmesan served with asparagus, Hasselback potato, and jus gras, and a warmly spiced Marinated Monkfish on a bed of aloo palak, surrounded by tikka sauce, and a cooling raita.
Of course, we couldnāt resist the comforting Apple Crumble Tart with crĆØme anglaise and vanilla ice cream, and the superb Irish Cheese Board with crackers, grapes, and a duo of chutneys. And donāt miss out on the iced Two Stacks Irish Cream Liqueur cocktail-the perfect dessert accompaniment!
At the end of the evening, a dram of one of Stitch & Weaveās Whiskey collaborations in the downstairs bar was the perfect nightcap, and both Dunvilleās decadently dark Cask 1782, an exclusive 13-Year-Old Irish Single Malt finished in Pedro Ximenez Casks, and the 8-Year-Old Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, crafted in collaboration with Shortcross Distillery, were just the ticket.

Avoca
The Arthur Street CafƩ at Avoca Belfast is the ideal location for a spot of refreshment and relaxation after indulging in some city centre retail therapy.
And with a cool new rebrand, whilst still retaining that familiar, spacious vintage-inspired vibe, Avoca 1723, named after a little weaving mill and inspired by Avocaās Wicklow heritage, uses quality Irish ingredients to create delicious dishes celebrating fresh local produce.
Many of the new menu items also feature in Avocaās best-selling cookbook, featuring lots of tasty, freshly prepared plates.

From the āAll Day Favouritesā section, we chose a beautifully fresh and zingy Avoca Crab Salad with Lambay Island dressed white crab, on toasted brioche, with pickled fennel, pink grapefruit, apple, radish, and a mixed leaf salad, and a summery Baked Cod Criolla, with baby spinach, potato rƶsti, and salsa criolla, which is a vibrant, Latin American sauce made from finely sliced red onions, tomatoes, peppers, fresh herbs, and crispy capers.
The āWeave It Your Wayā section also allows the diner to enjoy ābespoke foodie tailoringā, with an incredible variety of savoury and sweet combinations; we went for Avocaās legendary buttermilk pancakes with mixed berry compote and vanilla mascarpone. Thereās also a terrific choice of drinks, from coffees and sodas, to wines and cocktails.
And of course, no visit to Avoca is complete without a trip to the food market, overflowing with cakes, breads and scones, artisanal oils and spices, Grab and Go meals, and an abundance of freshly-made Avoca salads, soups, gourmet sandwiches and tarts, which can be ordered to go, or eaten at the counter.
With its beautiful retail store, artisanal food market and the relaunched 1723 CafƩ, Avoca Belfast is a must-visit for anyone spending time in the city centre.

Bishop’s Gate Hotel
We enjoyed a fantastic stay in the elegantly spacious, and tastefully appointed āAlfred Arthur Formanā Penthouse Suite in the Bishopās Gate Hotel in Derry.

Featured in Irelandās Blue Book, this beautifully restored Edwardian building is a unique and luxurious base right in the heart of the city. With thirty-one guestrooms, two suites and self-contained apartments, each room at Bishopās Gate Hotel is a delight.
Our penthouse suite was the last word in charm and character, reflecting the heritage and style of Forman, the architect who remodelled the building at the turn of the last century, and was renowned for his quirky attention to detail.
With its superb cityscape views of the Guildhall and Peace Bridge, a spacious living and dining room with a classical fireplace, tasteful furnishings and attention to detail, (the vintage style telephones were a nice touch), and a separate bedroom with an incredibly comfortable King Size Bed, this was a beautiful suite.
The Designer Bathroom had a bath, a walk-in Monsoon Shower, and our favourite toiletries by Rituals were also provided. The room also included Luxury Robes and Slippers, and complimentary access to the Fitness Room.
The hotel is also home to the excellent Gown Restaurant showcasing seasonally inspired dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients, the Wig Champagne Bar with its theatrically unique legal-themed dƩcor, and The Northern Counties Ballroom which combines period grandeur with modern design, creating the perfect backdrop for any large scale event, with space for up to ninety guests.
The hotel blends the contemporary and traditional seamlessly, and is perfectly situated for exploring all that the historic walled city has to offer.
