‘Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered’, this Saturday night at The MAC (13 April), is Northern Ireland Opera’s last Salon Series event, but this show is also playing Derry on May 25th at The Playhouse so there’ll be another opportunity for audiences to see it then too.
‘Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered’ is an hour’s performance of staged songs from the golden age of musical theatre, including repertoire by Sondheim, Gershwin, Rodgers and Hammerstein and Cole Porter.
They are performed by Wendy Ferguson, who has been based in London for the last 25 years performing roles in musical theatre productions in the West End, throughout the UK and internationally, with roles including Madame Thénardier in Les Misérables (Queen’s Theatre London) and Carlotta in The Phantom of The Opera (Her Majesty’s Theatre, London).
She will be accompanied by Derry-born Ruth McGinley who had already gained widespread recognition as one of Ireland’s leading pianists by the age of 16, winning countless accolades including the piano final of the BBC Young Musician of the Year award. Since then, her career has been wide-ranging and daring, collaborating with some of the most acclaimed musicians working today, and straying from the typical classical-pianist journey. Wendy and Ruth will be joined by John Gillen on drumkit and Peter Doherty on bass.
You’ll hear well known songs and some hidden gems too. Come and experience an hour of witty, heart-rending and spectacular songs performed by these legendary local musicians.
