Saga Belfast Restaurant Review – June 2024

Saga Belfast

Saga Belfast, on the Malone Rd, continues the culinary journey of Blank restaurant, with its dedicated team helmed by Jonny and Christina, whose love of great local produce, global influences, and new, exciting wine discoveries, make Saga the latest foodie hotspot in Belfast.

To start, Saga’s sommelier and mixologist Alex created some stunning cocktails from the new list; a Spiced Irish Negroni, a Poitin Aviation, a Salted Toffee Apple, and our favourite-a Cold Brew Coffee Margarita.

We enjoyed some warm Baguette with Confit Garlic & Parsley Butter, accompanied by Marinated Olives, and crispy Nori Seaweed Crackers, with Smoked Eel and Vinegar Gel while we made our menu choices.

And what a fabulous menu, which has retained some Blank favourites whilst giving them a fresh new twist.

Our starters were absolutely delicious; Pan Fried Portavogie King Scallops, with Smoked Black Pudding, Endive & Apple, Chicken & Duck Liver Parfait with Cumberland Gel & Toasted Brioche, a plant-based Stuffed Courgette Flower with Garlic & Lemon Tofu, Herb Oil, & a Seed Cracker, and our stand-out plate, meltingly soft Salt & Chilli Squid with Black Chilli & Yuzu Mayo.

The Main Courses were also fantastic; perfectly pink Duck Breast, Sesame Crusted Tuna Fillet, Pan Roasted Cod Fillet

with a Brown Shrimp Beurre Blanc, and moist Cornfed Chicken Supreme with Sautéed Wild Mushrooms. All so good, it was impossible to pick a favourite.

And of course, the desserts at Saga are not to be missed. From the zingy Lemon Tart with Raspberry or the boozy Affogato, to the fantastic Irish Cheese Menu from Mike’s Fancy Cheese, these dishes were the perfect way to finish a wonderful meal.

Saga’s ethos, “Eat Local, Think Global” is perfectly reflected in this terrific new menu. Many thanks to Christina, Jonny and Alex for the invitation. We’ll be making a return visit very soon.
