Belfast darts enthusiast Paddy Boyd is preparing to throw for an incredible 12 hours — or until he reaches 100,000 points — to raise money and awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Paddy’s Macmillan Darts Marathon will take place at Gallagher’s Bar, Belfast, on Saturday 3 October, running from 12 noon until midnight, with one big target in mind: raising as much money as possible to help people living with cancer.
The challenge has a deeply personal meaning for Paddy, who has lost his mum and other relatives to cancer.
Paddy said:
“Cancer has affected my family personally. I lost my mum and other relatives to cancer, and I know there are very few families who haven’t been touched by it in some way. I wanted to take something I’ve loved for years — darts — and use it to raise awareness and hopefully raise as much money as possible for Macmillan.
“If people can come down to Gallagher’s on the day, support the marathon and make a donation, it would mean so much to me. Every donation, no matter how big or small, can help Macmillan support people living with cancer and their families.”
FROM NORTH BELFAST DARTS TO A 100,000-POINT CHALLENGE
Paddy’s love of darts stretches back to 2010. He began playing in the North Belfast Dart League and his involvement in the sport continued to grow, eventually leading him to run teams himself.
His darts heroes include Phil Taylor, one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, and current star Luke Humphries.
Now Paddy is putting all those years of throwing to the test with an ambitious target: 100,000 points in a single day.
The marathon will continue for up to 12 hours, from noon until midnight, or until Paddy reaches the 100,000-point mark.
And Paddy’s darts ambitions don’t end there.
He has also applied for the opportunity to take part in Netflix’s Beat Luke Littler, which gives amateur darts players the chance to test themselves against darts superstar Luke “The Nuke” Littler.
But before then, Paddy’s attention is firmly fixed on the board at Gallagher’s — and on raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
EVERYONE IS WELCOME
Paddy is encouraging darts fans, local residents, families, friends and anyone whose life has been touched by cancer to come along to Gallagher’s Bar on Saturday 3 October and get behind the challenge.
The event is all for Macmillan Cancer Support, whose work helps people living with cancer to live life as fully as they can.
Those who cannot attend can still support Paddy by making a donation through his fundraising profile page.
Paddy added:
“This is about more than hitting 100,000 points. It’s about remembering the people we’ve lost, supporting those who are living with cancer today and raising awareness of the help that is available. Everyone is welcome to come down, cheer me on and donate. Together, I hope we can make the day something really special for Macmillan.”
