Centre Stage Theatre Company, providing young people with accessible theatre experiences since 1983, is calling for young people between 8 – 18 yrs to unleash their creativity and join their team of professional theatre makers on a ‘holiday’ at their summer drama (residential and no residential) 28th July – 3rd August 2024 – no audition required.
Students will take part in a range of creative activities including dance, musical, improvisation, script work/rehearsals and make their own short film. Skills taught will help young peopledevelop many aspects of their lives such as: improving confidence, ability to make new friends, learning how to work well with others and overcoming shyness.
Centre Stage took an innovative lead in establishing Northern Ireland’s first summer drama residential scheme for young people. The ‘holiday’ concept for Centre Stage summer drama was founded by the late Roma Tomelty and Colin Carnegie, both from professional theatre backgrounds, with credits in film and television. Centre Stage’s youth-oriented work is designed to engage young people to encourage involvement in the arts and over the years staff have also been drawn from the profession.
Rachael Carnegie, from Centre Stage Theatre Company, said:
“ As a family-run organisation, the sheer enthusiasm is set in the heart of Centre Stage – performance and theatrics is in our blood. Roma Tomelty and Colin Carnegie are our proud founders, but that’s not where our story begins. Our legacy started with the late Joseph Tomelty, (Roma’s father) an accredited Irish actor, novelist, short-story writer, playwright and theatre manager.”
Rachael added:
“ Regardless of levels of experience or ability, we hope young people will consider joining us on holiday at our Summer Drama, for an immersive experience where they will have the opportunity to unleash their talent, learn new skills, and grow in confidence on stage and off! From acting to improvisation, dance & movement, even a short film, our summer school programme is for everyone .Beyond the stage, participants will forge lasting friendships.”
