Hotel Overview – November 2025
Part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton, The Marcus on Portrush’s Main Street has its official opening in November. This sympathetically restored Victorian building has retained and preserved many original architectural features, including its mosaic signage and intricate tiling, whilst ensuring a comfortable stay with its luxurious and contemporary attention to detail.
The Marcus is the ideal location for holiday-makers looking for a seaside retreat, golfers who can enjoy the neighbouring Royal Portrush Golf Course, and tourists from far and wide who flock to the area to discover more about the North Coast’s fascinating heritage including the Giants Causeway, and Bushmills Distillery.
Our spacious King Deluxe Room had a relaxing vibe with its fresh green colour palette, parquet flooring, both a king-sized bed and a sofa bed, which created a delightful suite-style lounge area. The bathroom featured a walk-in rain shower, granite surfaces and Acca Kappa bath amenities. Other features in the room include a HDTV, coffee and tea-making facilities, a personal fridge, safe, and clothes steamer.
We stopped by for a couple of drinks at the hotel’s Heritage Bar, where we enjoyed expertly crafted cocktails in elegant, characterful surroundings; a terrific Negroni (our go-to aperitif), and we even got a sneak peek at one of the Marcus’s special Christmas creations, the Terry’s Martini, with hints of the ubiquitous chocolate orange stocking filler!
We then had a delicious meal at Nemesis Asian Fusion, an excitingly original restaurant concept within The Marcus; exotic flavours and vibrant cuisine in a menu which pairs South-East Asian dishes with the best local produce.
The next morning, breakfast at The Marcus was the perfect way to set us up for the day. From a full Irish breakfast or three egg omelette, to fluffy pancakes or smashed avocado, the menu was designed to get us ready to enjoy exploring everything the North Coast has to offer.

Throughout the entire venue, you’ll come across a multitude of quirky references to “Marcus”, the character whose curiosity, sense of adventure, and deep connection to the sea, flow through both his story and this amazing hotel: he’s the playful soul of Portrush brought to life!

Our Visit to Nemesis – Nov 2025
On Main Street in Portrush, the recently launched Marcus Hotel, which is part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton, is home to Nemesis Asian Fusion, an excitingly original restaurant concept; exotic flavours and vibrant dishes in a menu which pairs South-East Asian cuisine with the best local produce.
Drawing inspiration from the adventures of “Marcus” and his deep-sea encounter with the giant octopus “Nemesis”, the comic-book vibe is playful and adventurous, just like the menu, which invites the diner to dive into a voyage of culinary discovery.
With its terracotta and cobalt blue colour scheme, and the striking wave paintings reminiscent of Hokusai’s Japanese woodblock prints, the restaurant’s interior is relaxed and informal, yet subtly sophisticated.
To begin, we had a couple of signature cocktails, a Vesper Martini, and an Orra Margarita, to accompany our starters of vibrant green Gyoza, steamed Japanese-style dumplings filled with mixed vegetables, with a Sesame Soy Dip, and the Grilled Salmon Yakitori Skewer coated in a sticky glaze of mirin, sake and soy sauce with Asian slaw.
The main courses were also very tasty; a delicately flavoured Panfried Hake, served with Asian gremolata, steamed greens and jasmine rice, and a plant-based Garlic Tofu Chao with wok-fried smoked tofu and mixed vegetables in an umami soy sauce, with fluffy jasmine rice. Perfectly paired with a mineral-rich Verdejo Rueda, and a spicy Edamame Salad on the side, this was a thoroughly enjoyable meal.
And for dessert, the Chocolate Fondant with whiskey ice cream was deliciously rich, and the Chef’s Favourite Cheesecake was delicately flavoured with Asian Yuzu and matcha and served with homemade black sesame ice cream.
Many thanks to the team at Nemesis, especially Andrew and Evelyn, for a fantastic evening of great food and service.

Portrush is a place that stands apart with its dramatic setting on Ireland’s north Atlantic coast, with picturesque beaches and an old-world charm that resonates with its visitors. It’s a place known for its joyous spirit, where the energy is as much about the past as it is about the thrill of discovery. This is the essence that ‘The Marcus’ captures – a place that invokes the adventure and child-like joy we experience when exploring a coastal town brimming with history and wonder.

The story of ‘The Marcus’ is built around a central figure – Marcus. He is the protagonist of a comic-book-style adventure, setting off on daring exploits across the North Atlantic. This playful, yet profound, narrative transforms the hotel into more than just a place to stay; it becomes a part of the adventure.
Marcus Portrush Tapestry Collection by Hilton will bring breathe new life into a heritage building, which first opened its doors as a hotel in the 1880s. This renovation in the heart of Portrush will restore this listed property to its former glory, embracing the area’s narrative and preserving its stories. The interiors will celebrate the history this Victorian tourist resort, and will retain original features including the building’s original mosaic signage and tiled façade.

The hotel opened its doors in time for golf’s 153rd Open Championship, one of the four ‘Majors’, which will be held in the town at Royal Portrush from 13-20 July 2025.

The location features a wealth of attractions including a UNESCO World Heritage Site – The Giants Causeway, the famous Bushmills Whiskey Distillery and the picturesque Atlantic coastline with dramatic cliffs and stunning beaches.

Embracing the distinct culture of its local neighbourhood, The Marcus Portrush will join a global portfolio of more than 100 unique Tapestry Collection by Hilton properties globally, which provide the perfect base for travellers looking for the authentic experience of an independent hotel at a destination worth exploring. The hotel will feature 80 boutique bedrooms, a heritage cocktail bar and an Asian Fusion restaurant that will feature flavours experienced by Marcus on his adventures.
