We began our evening with some terrific traditional cocktails, a Sidecar and a Negroni, before our starters. We ordered the Pan Seared Kilkeel Scallops Vol Au Vent; a delightfully retro dish with beautifully cooked Scallops in a Wild Mushroom and Leek Sauce in a Puff Pastry case, with Charred Scallion and a Red Wine Jus.

We also loved the refreshing dish of Crab and Crayfish in a Lemon Mayonnaise on Toasted Brioche accompanied by Celeriac Remoulade.

Continuing the seafood theme, the Tuna Steak was perfectly seared on the outside and moist and pink in the centre, with Béarnaise Sauce, Fries & Salad, and the beautiful Brown Butter Monkfish Tail was served with a Butternut Squash & Potato Gratin, Pumpkin Puree, Crispy Kale, and a Burnt Bacon Crumb.

The wine list is exceptional value and has many excellent bottles to choose from-the Picpoul de Pinet paired really well with our fish fishes.

To finish, the desserts of an autumnal Vegan Apple & Caramel Tart with Vegan Vanilla Ice-Cream, and Millar’s classic Baked Alaska with a White Chocolate Blondie, Banana Puree & Cookie Crumble Ice-Cream, were the perfect way to finish another fantastic meal a this brilliant city centre restaurant, which also offers Pre-Theatre, Express Lunch and Sunday Set menu deals.

On Belfast’s Botanic Avenue, Bites of India has a varied menu featuring  dishes using the finest, freshest ingredients. From smooth, creamy Butter Masala and rich, fiery Vindaloo, to traditional Tandoori specialities and a section devoted to South Indian cuisine, there’s always something different to try.

We were served some crispy poppadoms and dips to accompany our beers while we chose what to order.

To start, the Gobi Manchurian, fried cauliflower in a sticky, sweet & spicy sauce, had a great chilli heat, and our favourite Indian DIY streetfood, Pani Poori, were crunchy and packed with flavour. These hollow spheres of fried puri, packed with potatoes, chickpeas, onions, chutney and a refreshing spiced water, are not to be missed.

We enjoyed the Aachari Paneer so much on our last visit, that we had to re-order it; a deliciously tangy, aromatic vegetarian dish with cubes of paneer in a yogurt sauce, with pickle, onions, fennel, nigella seeds and fenugreek.

We also loved the creamy Methi Malai Prawn, a Mughlai Dish prepared with fresh fenugreek greens simmered in a rich curry, and served with saffron rice.

And one of the staples of South Indian cuisine is the Dosa, which is a thin, crispy crepe, with a variety of fillings. We had the Mysore Masala Dosa which was wonderfully warm and spicy. A vegan dish, stuffed with chilli potatoes and served with Sambhar, and Coconut, Peanut, & Tomato Chutneys, this was utterly moreish, and the use of rice and lentils in the pancake would make it an excellent gluten-free option.

It was a pleasure to make a long overdue return visit to Bites of India on Botanic Avenue. Many thanks to the team for the invitation to enjoy the delicious dishes on offer.

The Hunting Lodge, Moy

We were delighted, and indeed intrigued, to have been invited to a Secret Autumnal Soirée recently; whisked away on a mystery coach trip with a fantastic bunch of equally curious travelling companions (and a sartorially dressed “stallion” giving us tantalising clues along the way), we eventually arrived at The Hunting Lodge, Moy.

See more here too :-

A beautiful country house, with stables & gardens set in the scenic Irish countryside, this stunning family home has been lovingly reimagined to retain many period features whilst having been tastefully and sympathetically updated to include all modern amenities.

The decor is neutral, restful and luxurious in tone, with a colour palette reflecting the natural surroundings, and a wonderful selection of artworks and decorative features. We particularly loved the framed vintage waistcoats and jackets on display: very “up our street”!

We had an idyllic afternoon exploring the house and grounds, enjoying some terrific cocktails in the Lodge’s own bar area, tucking into a sumptuous feast courtesy of “The Green Room”, and having a singalong with the talented Peter McKernan.

It was also delightful to meet the family, and learn about how their vision for The Hunting Lodge had come to life in such a wonderful way.

The Hunting Lodge can comfortably accommodate up to fourteen guests, and would be perfect for special events, family gatherings, relaxing retreats, exclusive stays, and wedding celebrations.
