FORGET ONLINE. MEET OCEAN.
Elephant Rock launches FOMO experience inviting guests to swap screen time for sea time
Always on your phone? Checking emails on your days off? Scrolling while the sunset is happening right in front of you?

We have all heard of FOMO – fear of missing out. But this summer, Elephant Rock Boutique Hotel in Portrush is introducing a different kind of FOMO – Forget Online. Meet Ocean.
The award-winning coastal hotel is inviting guests to put their phones down and look up with the launch of its new FOMO stay experience, designed to help people switch off, slow down and properly enjoy what is around them.
Guests who opt in will hand over their phones at check-in and, subject to availability, receive a digital camera with an SD card to capture their stay the old-school way.

And even when cameras are unavailable, guests can still take part in FOMO by handing over their phone to be kept safely by the hotel, giving them the chance to properly switch off and enjoy Portrush without distraction.
That means no doomscrolling, no work emails, no social media rabbit holes and no constant notifications. Instead, guests are being encouraged to experience Portrush properly – the sea air, the beaches, the sunsets, the sound of the waves, the coastal walks, the food, the drinks and the people they came away with.
And with the Atlantic Ocean visible from most of Elephant Rock’s rooms, as well as its bar and restaurant, the reminder to look up is never far away.

The idea leans into the nostalgia of holidays before smartphones, when memories were made in the moment and the photos came later.
At the end of their stay, guests who receive a camera will take home their SD card, giving them their own delayed “camera dump” to enjoy once they return to the real world.
Charlotte Dixon, Managing Director of Elephant Rock Boutique Hotel, said: “We are all guilty of it. You go somewhere beautiful, but instead of really taking it in, you end up looking at it through a phone screen.
“This summer, we are giving FOMO a new meaning – Forget Online. Meet Ocean. At Elephant Rock, we are perfectly situated, with the stunning Atlantic Ocean right on our doorstep.
“There is so much beauty here – from the beaches and coastal walks to the sunsets, sea swims and incredible food and drink – and sometimes you just need to put the phone away to really see it.
“The cameras are a lovely nostalgic part of the experience and will be available on a limited basis, but the heart of FOMO is simply giving guests the chance to switch off. If a camera is not available, we will still keep their phone safe so they can enjoy their own phone-free escape.”
Elephant Rock has become one of Portrush’s most distinctive places to stay, combining stylish rooms, standout food and drink, coastal charm and warm hospitality.
Charlotte added: “The digital camera is part of the fun. We love the idea of guests taking photos without filters, without endless retakes and without posting them straight away. It brings back that feeling of capturing real moments and discovering them later.”
Whether it is a solo reset, a weekend with friends, a romantic break or simply a chance to trade screen time for sea time, Elephant Rock’s FOMO experience is designed to help guests slow down, lift their heads and experience Portrush in the moment.
