Tanty Rosie’s
For a taste of the Caribbean in Belfast, look no further than Tanty Rosie’s on the Woodstock Road. Owner Bonnie has created a relaxed, informal space where you can pop in & try whatever’s cooking in the kitchen-there’s no set menu, just what’s fresh that day.
We were invited to try Bonnie’s hospitality, & were whisked away on a culinary Caribbean adventure; smoky roasted Breadfruit, Plantain, White Sweet Potato, & a tomato & salt fish salad, delicious Roasted Corn on the Cob, “Doubles”- two Barra topped with Channa & served with sauces, a vegan Jerk “Chicken” with Spiced Coleslaw & Rice & Peas, Sweet Potato Pone-a spicy, warm pud, & tea with a little Jamaican coconut tart on the side. Tanty Rosie’s is open Sat-Mon for tea & food until 5pm.

Gaga Cafe
Gaga Boba on the Lisburn Rd has now expanded its menu to become “Gaga Cafe” serving Asian inspired brunch & lunch dishes. We went for the Wild Mushroom Egg Drop Sandwich: delicious sautéed mushrooms in brioche topped with scrambled eggs & mayo. From the lunch menu we adapted the Spice Bag Bowl into a veggie delight, with smoked tofu, fries, scallions, pickled veg, peppers, & crispy onions, smothered in house curry. We also loved the Gaga Bibimbap; rice topped with spinach, carrots, bean sprouts, mushrooms, with a chilli house sauce & teriyaki salmon.
And the famous Gaga Boba Teas are phenomenal, in a range of styles, flavours & textures. Made in-house, the gelato are great especially when sandwiched inside a Gelato Brioche, or served as an Ube Affogato if you’re in need of a caffeine fix!
