This weekās Tuesday Goodie Bag features
Wine & Brine
Sometimes, the buzz surrounding a restaurant is such that it simply canāt live up to expectations. And weāre so pleased to report that this was most definitely not the case with the utterly sublime Wine & Brine.
We are ashamed to say, that this was our first visit to Wine and Brine, and we received a well deserved, if metaphorical, slap on the wrist from Davina on our arrival for leaving it so long! Apologies!

We were seated in the bright, airy space at the back of the restaurant, flooded with natural light, and spent a considerable time studying the fabulous Sunday set menu, as each dish sounded absolutely stunning.
Michelin-trained Chef Chris McGowanās food, served from the open kitchen, is nothing short of superb, and it would be tricky to pick out our favourites as every course was just delicious, but here goes!
The Torched Mackerel was the perfect summery starter, strewn with elderflower, with spicy hints of jalapeƱo, wasabi, and served with a warm crumpet topped with taramasalata. Also, the Portavogie Prawn Tempura, with a Nam Jim dip was packed with fresh and vibrant flavours. And the bread selection needs a mention; without doubt one of the best, and most generous, weāve had in some time.
Continuing the seafood theme, the Dayboat Sole on the Bone was scattered with prawns, capers, & parsley, the Fillet of Wild Halibut was served with young peas, fish tempura, and a shellfish XO sauce, and the Spiced Coley in a Laksa sauce was topped with fresh Kilkeel crab. And the Roast Rump of Spring Lamb was served perfectly pink.
Our dessert highlights were the luscious Whey Caramel Tart with orange & mascarpone sorbet, and the refreshingly sour Elderflower & Gooseberry Trifle- although every sweet sensation was a delight.
Wine and Brine: thank you so much for a wonderful family Sunday Lunch, and see you again very soon.

Halt, Weavers Cross
Halt, Weavers Cross, at the old Europa bus station, serves up some of the best Streetfood options in Belfast, and we were delighted to be invited down to celebrate Haltās first birthday.
Over the past year, Halt has welcomed thousands of customers through the doors, and has hosted terrific live music, brilliant events, family fun days, comedy nights, artisan markets, and lots more.
Just grab a seat, order at the counter, grab a drink to go with your grub, and youāll be ābuzzedā when the foodās ready.
There are plenty of popular local vendors to choose from, including Bodega Bagels, Katsu Kitchen, Mission St Burrito, Fowl Play, Pattyās Burgers, Block 313 Detroit Style Pizza, & Babs Kebabs.
We went for some of our favourites from Fowl Play; a delicious āGreen Machineā with buttermilk brined crispy fried chicken, garlic mayo, salsa verde, American cheese, pickles, & shredduce, and some spicy āKorean Fried Plant-Based Tendersā with slaw, naga pickles, & candied jalapeƱo dip.
And from Pattyās Proper Burgers, we had to try the meat-free version of āThe Hot Oneā, with the crunch of crispy chilli, tasty cheese, fiery jalapeƱo jam, and the thickest, juiciest plant-based patty weād tried in quite a while. Accompanied by a hefty āCheesy Peppered Chipā, this was a fantastic feast.
Happy Birthday, Halt!

The Traitors, at The Malone
The first Traitors-themed event at The Malone was a cleverly conspiratorial evening of intrigue, deception, betrayal, and fabulous food.
We were invited to join the guests for a drinks reception where already alliances were formed, suspicions arose, and when all were assembled, we were ushered downstairs to the suitably atmospheric dining room where the game began.
Between challenges, murders, and banishments, we enjoyed a four course meal starting with Confit Duck Leg with Braised Red Cabbage, Confit Pepper, & Bean Salad, then an amuse bouche of Potato & Leek Soup.
This was followed by Curried Coconut Monkfish with Jasmine Rice, Supreme of Chicken with Summer Cabbage & a Chicken Croquette, or Spinach & Ricotta Ravioli. And to finish, Maloneās decadently rich Chocolate Ganache Tart with Ice Cream.
Could we spot the Traitors? Did any of the Faithful survive? Well, that would be telling!!
Look out for future Traitors evenings at The Malone, with Danielle from āTrust No Oneā events.
