This week’s Tuesday Goodie Bag features
Bread Boys
A new sandwich shop experience has arrived in Belfast. But this is no ordinary sarnie counter, serving meagre fillings on bland white bread: Bread Boys on the Ormeau Rd is simply sensational, and has reimagined the humble sandwich, making it into something pretty special indeed.

With a turntable pumping out cracking disco hits to entertain you while you peruse the menu and put in your order, (there can be a bit of a wait at busy times, but trust us, it’s worth it!) and a great selection of “Boys”, beverages, and buns to choose from, Bread Boys immediately elevates the takeaway sandwich venue to another level.
We ordered the “G.O.A.T.Boy”, with creamy, whipped goat’s cheese, soft japanese omelette, spiced beetroot slaw, & walnut pesto, and the piquant “Spice Boy”, with tender spice bag crispy chicken, an oozy fried egg, asian slaw, Sriracha mayo, & sesame, both in toasted brioche.
The sandwiches were incredible; packed to overflowing with delicious, flavourful fillings, and were fantastic value for money. We also loved the fiery “Seasoned Fries”, and the Signature Iced Drinks; we had the “Tiramisu” and the “Ruby Chocolate”, which were a cooling delight in this warm weather, and brilliant when accompanied by the sweet cookies, pastries, and traybakes available.
We also got a sneak peek at the terrific new plant-based sandwich option, stuffed with vegan stracciatella, miso mushrooms, and charred leeks, which is launching this week.
And chatting to some of the already regular customers (amazingly, the shop has only been open a week) who were huge fans of the “Breakfast Boy” options, we’ll definitely be back to give those a go. Bread Boys: your local sandwich slingers!

Pepito
Since opening its doors earlier last year, Pepito has become a firm favourite, bringing an Iberian vibe to the Upper Newtownards Rd, with its super Spanish tapas-style small plates paired with some great European wines, and a fine selection of vermuts, aperitivo, and slow sippers.
We chose a variety of delicious sharing plates including Spanish Omelet, Pan con Tomate topped with salted anchovies, Roast Padron Peppers sprinkled with smoked sea salt & a squeeze of lemon, and some Sourdough with tapenade.
We always love the Halloumi with chilli, the garlicky Patatas Bravas, perfect with the Spicy Italian meatballs with rich homemade tomato sauce, and the Roast Mediterranean Vegetables with Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
And the fish dishes are also top notch; Salmon & Potato Fritter with crab bisque, Roast Scallop in romesco sauce, and smoky Grilled Octopus in a tomato, caper & shallot dressing.
But leave room for dessert; the Tunisian Orange Cake was a marmalade-lover’s dream, the
Churros with chocolate sauce & vanilla ice cream were sugary and moreish, the Basque Cheesecake was creamy with perfectly burnt edges, and the Gorgonzola with biscuits was served with refreshingly cooling frozen grapes.
Pepito: authentic summery Mediterranean small plates.

Berlin Gemüse Kebap Haus
Located in Hillview Retail Park on the Crumlin Rd, and influenced by the legendary Gemüse Kebap which originated on the streets of Berlin, the recently launched Berlin Gemüse Kebap Haus serves up lovingly prepared, deliciously well-balanced dishes using quality, flavourful ingredients.
The premise is simple; to celebrate this street-food tradition which perfectly balances freshness, flavour, and craftsmanship, by transforming the humble kebap into a culinary icon.
We went for the Chicken Gemüse Kebap; traditional, freshly toasted pide bread from Bread & Bakes, stuffed with moist marinated chicken, smoky roast vegetables, crunchy fresh salad, sumac onions, a sprinkle of tangy feta, mint, and parsley, and all three signature sauces, herb, garlic, and spicy, which were layered throughout to create depth in every bite, and finally, a zingy drizzle of fresh lemon brought everything to life.
The kebap can also be served on Berlin’s spicy fries or, for a healthier option, in a salad bowl. And all versions are available with a grilled halloumi alternative for a deliciously cheesy, vegetarian dish.
