We’re delighted that Street Hawker, one of our favourite street-food vendors, has just opened up shop on the Belmont Rd in East Belfast, and we couldn’t wait to order some of chef Aaron Sanlon’s delicious dishes. 

The new menu features lots of fresh and tasty street-food favourites, with locally sourced meats from Brian’s Butchers on the Castlereagh Rd. From the “Meatalicious” and “Mother Cluckers”, to saucy wings, loaded fries, veggie options, fish dishes, sauces, sides, and desserts, there’s something to suit everyone. 

We loved the “Chicken Cheetos”: flaming hot chicken goujons in a crispy deep fried coating with a cheese sauce, and “Prawnathan Ross”: a tropical take on scampi, with beer battered tiger prawns, pineapple salsa and curried aioli. 

For veggies, the “Eggy Mitchell” is a brilliant sandwich of black bean scrambled egg with chilli jam, ponzu mayo, pickled onions, and napa slaw, all inside a brioche bun, and for those looking for something a little more traditional, the “Cod Stewart” with golden crispy battered fish and skin-on fries is served with a fantastic homemade chunky tartare sauce. 

And do leave room for desserts; the Churros are sweet and cinnamony, and the deep fried Oreos are a guilty pleasure.

The Mill Race at Dunadry Hotel & Gardens.  

We were absolutely delighted to be offered the opportunity to recharge our batteries ahead of the busy festive season at one of Dunadry Hotel and Gardens’ brand new Spa Garden Rooms. This exclusive calming accommodation offers guests a sanctuary from which to enjoy the new Spa Garden with  private, guest-only access to luxurious hot tubs, invigorating cool plunges, and soothing saunas: the perfect blend of modern design and natural surroundings.

The historic building itself was once the site of an ancient fort, then a paper mill, then used to mill linen, before being transformed into a hotel in 1966. Recent sympathetically executed renovations have turned the hotel into a beautiful 4 star venue with many traditional touches and charming features. 

Nestled in the original working cellar of the hotel, we enjoyed a Premium Irish Whiskey Tasting Experience. Led by the knowledgeable and affable Gavin, this memorable experience included a guided tasting of three premium Irish whiskeys, along with cheese and charcuterie, and many expert insights.

To finish the evening in style, we were treated to a three course dining experience with wine at the Mill Race Restaurant. With its beautiful views over the Six Mile Water river, the restaurant showcases the best of seasonal flavours. The team of chefs source the very best of local produce, ensuring that all food is fully traceable from farm to fork.

We loved some of the delicious dishes from both the Dunadry Favourites and the newly launched Festive Menus, including sumptuous starters such as Venison Sausage, Smoked Duck, and Mediterranean Veg & Goats Cheese Tart. The main courses ranged from tasty Burgers and golden Beer Battered Haddock, to Oven Baked Glenarm Salmon and Local Turkey with Honey Baked Ham with all the trimmings. Desserts were also terrific, including Clementine Tart, Chantilly Cream Filled Profiteroles, and of course, traditional Xmas Pud! 

This fine dining restaurant is ideal for any occasion, whether it is for Afternoon Tea, Sunday lunch or a special celebration.
