On the Great Northern Mall in Belfast, Giuseppe MiccichƩ has opened the wonderful Nica Nica coffee shop, offering delicious treats inspired by his Sicilian culinary heritage.

His passion for cooking started at an early age, and his ā€œPupino Chefā€ products reflect the flavours and aromas of Italy.

From incredible authentic cannoli in various sizes and flavours and artisan panettone, to amazing nut spreads and chocolate bars, Nica Nica is packed with unique and delicious treats and gift ideas.

We called in for a hot drink, and were treated to a fantastic Dirty Chai Latte, and an indulgent Pistachio Coffee.

The cannoli are superb: crispy shells stuffed with sweet ricotta and are available in a variety of flavours. There are also vegan and gluten free options for the cannoli and many other menu items.

And make sure you try the spreadable creams in combinations of hazelnut, pistachio, chocolate and caramel, although our favourite tub was a savoury pistachio pesto-perfect for stirring through pasta, or spreading over a salmon fillet!

So, next time you’re in Belfast looking for a special treat, pop in to Nica Nica and let your tastebuds be transported to sunny Sicily.Ā

One of the most exciting and unexpected culinary surprises of 2024 was the announcement that chef Paul Rankin’s latest venture would be ā€œThe Belmontā€ in Belmont Bowling Club, and we had a delicious meal there at one of the club’s Christmas Party nights.

As well as a fabulous new wine list curated by Direct Wine Shipments, and a great bistro menu, The Belmont’s Christmas fare was among the very best we had tried this holiday season; warming Turkey Broth using a family recipe, a Roast Turkey Dinner with all the trimmings, and a luxurious Festive Trifle. And for pescatarians, a creamy seafood chowder, followed by beautifully cooked Monkfish with crispy Fish Cake.

We also enjoyed entertainment from the brilliant musical duo, ā€œGlitter & Goldā€ (and apologies to everyone who experienced ABBA ā€˜Gourmet Boys Style’!)

We can’t wait to go back in the new year to try some more of Paul’s terrific dishes at the Belmont, which is open Thursday-Sunday for lunch and dinner.
