āSo, whereās the best pub grub in Belfast?ā weāre frequently asked. And there are plenty of contenders. But for us The Deerās Head, in collaboration with Jonny Stevensonās Urban Scullery, serves up fantastic fare.
We called in recently for some lunch.
To start we shared the Crayfish Open; crayfish tails with a garlic, lemon & parsley sauce and dressed leaves, served on Scullery wheaten.
To follow, the Fish Supper featured a golden, crispy battered local haddock, on mushy overnight peas and a curry sauce for dipping the skin-on chips.
We also loved the Chicken Stack; a pan roasted chicken breast on a bed of champ, with lashings of deliciously creamy whiskey peppercorn cream sauce, and greens. And of course, the legendary Battered Pickled Onions are not to be missed.
All washed down with a pint of well rounded, malty āRed Cow Red Aleā, and a cheeky Irish Whiskey Flight, this was a particularly enjoyable lunchtime treat.

Roam in Callender Street continues to be one of our absolute favourite venues in Belfastās City Centre, serving the finest local ingredients, carefully crafted into beautifully presented, utterly delicious dishes.

We started our evening with some moreish Stout & Treacle Bread with Whipped Butter & Sea Salt, and to follow, the starters of Kilkeel Scallops with lemongrass & burnt peas, Citrus Cured Sea Trout, Heirloom Tomato with Ballylisk cheese, and Iberico Pork Presa, were all perfection on a plate.
And the main courses were also fantastic; Pan Roast Cod in a lemon beurre blanc, Mourne Lamb Rump with red pepper, Monkfish with courgette, basil and a chicken jus, and Baked Celeriac with miso, turnip and red wine. All accompanied by sides of Crushed Baby Potatoes with confit garlic butter, and Organic Vegetables with a herb dressing.
Desserts were a delight; moist Citrus Polenta Cake with blackberry & tarragon, indulgent 55% Chocolate Cremeux with rye ice-cream, and a superb Irish Cheese Plate featuring Durrus, Claddagh, and Boyne Valley Blue, with grape chutney, fennel, and crackers.
Featuring a changing, seasonal menu, Roam provides a unique yet casual dining experience: attentive but informal, simple but sophisticated.

Thereās also a great choice of coffee, hot chocolate and sweet treats. The Ice Cream Brioche is a delightful pairing of hot, toasty bun stuffed with your choice of cool, melty ice-cream, and the Dubai Chocolate Pistachio Brownies are pure indulgence!
And to contrast with the delicious sweetness, there are also savoury snacks available such as Malay Satay Skewers or Thai Spring Rolls, and as the dishes are from the team behind Tuk Tuk, you know theyāre going to be good!
The cafĆ© has also adopted a panda! A portion of every purchase goes directly to WWFās efforts in Giant Panda conservation, helping to fund research, habitat preservation, and the overall health and well-being of these endearing symbols of wildlife conservation.
