The Welcome

The Welcome website HERE

A Belfast institution, the Welcome Restaurant in  Stranmillis was opened in 1982, then Charlie and Michael Wong, sons of the founder, took over the restaurant in 2016.

Serving classic Hong Kong cuisine, The Welcome has won a range of awards throughout the years, including Best Belfast Restaurant, Master Chef and Egon Ronay Awards.

Our sharing starters included

Baby Boneless Ribs, Chicken Satay Kebabs on skewers,

Crispy Spring Rolls, and Salted Chilli Tofu & Soft Shell Crab, lightly battered, & stir fried in a spicy homemade salted chilli mix.

To follow, we had a traditional Sweet and Sour Hong Kong Style King Prawn and a tangy Lemon Prawn dish. The Honey Chilli Chicken had terrific heat, and the Green Pepper and Black Bean sauce with Beef had tender pieces of meat stir-fried in a homemade black bean paste with plenty of fresh garlic.

The Kung Po dish with King Prawn is classic Szechuan cuisine of tender prawns served with peppers, onions and cashew nuts, and one of our favourites, the Fresh Fillets of Sea Bass Steamed with Ginger and Scallions, is a light and healthy option.

It was great to return to this highly recommended Chinese restaurant in the heart of Queens Quarter.

Situated in the Marine Hotel Ballycastle, located on the Causeway Coast & Glens, Marconi’s Bar & Bistro is open 7 days a week serving delicious food from 12:00. This bright and spacious bistro has unrivalled sea views, and a relaxed, informal vibe.

We shared the herby Crab & Dill Arancini with Romesco Dressing, Chive Oil & Mixed Leaves to start, and this was followed by North Coast Smokehouse Trout with Pea Purée, Caramelised Apples, Sauté New Potatoes & Samphire, with a Parmesan Tuile & Mixed Leaves. We were told that this was one of Marconi’s most ordered dishes, and it’s not hard to see why.

A great veggie option, the Baked Stuffed Aubergine with Roasted Vegetable Ragout, rich with tomato flavour, had salty Breaded Halloumi on the side giving the dish a crispy, cheesy punch.

When choosing to dine on the Causeway Coast, pop into Marconi’s for excellent dishes using the finest local ingredients and with a menu to suit all tastes.

Pizza Guyz

We were organising a cast party after a recent production, & contacted one of our favourite pizza delivery shops in Belfast, “PIZZA GUYZ”. These family run, prize winning pizza shops, create delicious handcrafted pizzas; all meat is selected and sourced locally, the cheese is 100% buffalo mozzarella, & the veggies are all organic. However, an absolute must is a generous portion of Pizza Guyz’ “Cheesy Jalapeño Dough Balls”; incredible, fresh, belly-busting swirls of perfectly baked pizza dough, crammed with the ooziest mozzarella & lots of fiery chillis. Quite honestly, the best dough balls we’ve ever tasted.
