Located at The Pool, Portstewart, Native Seafood and Scran Fish Mongers, in the words of Rebekah and Stevie, was āborn out of frustration: the frustration of living on the North Coast of Ireland and not having direct access to the abundance of incredible local seafood.ā
Starting off as a modern take on a traditional Fish Mongers, using online pre-orders and delivery, Native gradually expanded into a full sit in/ takeaway seafood restaurant with a fresh fish counter. They pride themselves on making everything from scratch, to order and only using local seasonal ingredients to accompany the sustainably sourced seafood.Ā
They have received many accolades including āBest Newcomerā in the top 100 restaurants in Ireland in The Irish Times, ā100 best restaurants in Ireland 2022ā in The Sunday Times, and have also produced one of their own recipes in The Observer.Ā
We couldnāt wait to try it, and were completely bowled over by the quality, freshness and flavour of everything we tried. From sweet langoustines to oyster specials, crunchy padron peppers to creamy mussels, everything was cooked to perfection. And when the fresh catch of lobster, haddock, and monkfish arrived, we decided that a return visit in the very near future had to be on the cards. An absolute culinary jewel on the North Coast, which is not to be missed.

Kraken Fish & Chips in Portrush started life in a converted Citroƫn HY Van and their passion for using the best quality seafood, battered with care, and with a largely gluten free menu, is what makes their Lansdowne Crescent Fish Restaurant so successful.
We were mightily impressed with the āHalf Fishā and chips; a fair bit bigger than some regular fish suppers weāve come across. The Salt & Pepper Squid was delicious, served on an Asian Salad, and the Salt & Chilli Prawns were large and juicy served with a chilli jam. We also ordered Fish Tacos, and a very generous portion of Loaded Truffle & Parmesan Fries.
And perhaps what makes this place extra special are the fantastic sea views. Absolutely stunning!

Traditionally handmade using fine quality ingredients, including locally sourced rolled oats from County Armagh, Dittyās Oatcakes range, based in Castledawson, is a true taste of Ireland with a little twist. Our favourite biscuits are the Irish Walnut Oaties, crammed with walnuts for a rich nutty taste and texture, just perfect for pairing with cheese and chutney.Ā
