šŸ½ The Greyhound Bar

šŸ½ Good Food Ireland Showcase Dinner

Our accommodation of the week:

šŸ”µ Friel’s Fairytree Lodges

The Greyhound Bar

After checking in, we relaxed in the Lobby Bar with a couple of cocktails; a pleasantly sour ā€œHouse No. 60ā€ with Irish whiskey and lemon juice, and a spicy rum-based ā€œDark ā€˜n’ Stormyā€. There’s also a leafy covered terrace overlooking Eglantine Avenue for a spot of people watching!

The hotel has two dining options; the elegantly classy Gallery Restaurant and the popular, buzzing Greyhound Bar. The Malone chefs are passionate about locally sourced produce, warm hospitality, and delicious dishes.

We enjoyed a Sunday evening meal in The Malone Hotel’s modern Irish pub, The Greyhound, which serves bar food with a touch of refinement, alongside great wines, local beers, and a range of spirits.

We started with a light and fruity Sumo Cat Riesling to accompany our Small Plate starters of Penne Pasta with basil pesto, feta, & peppery rocket, and a Smoked Salmon Tart with a mixed leaf salad, crispy capers, & aged balsamic.

The classic signature dishes are exactly that. Chicken Supreme; oven roasted local free-range chicken breast with tenderstem broccoli, a selection of potatoes, and a wild mushroom fricassee, and a Chargrilled Cauliflower Steak with baby potatoes, cauliflower puree, crispy kale & capers. Accompanied by perfectly golden, battered Onion Rings (one of our guilty pleasures), this was a delicious meal.

And to finish, we shared a cut glass tumbler piled high with fruity, creamy Eton Mess, rich with tart brambles, blackcurrants, and crisp meringue, topped with a sprig of mint.

Good Food Ireland Showcase Dinner

The culinary finale of the anniversary conference, at the InterContinental Dublin, celebrated 20 years of connecting Irish producers, chefs & tourism through authentic farm-to-fork experiences. We enjoyed seasonal dishes crafted from premium Irish ingredients while meeting the producers & chefs behind them, highlighting provenance, sustainability & the Good Food Ireland ethos.

Friel’s Fairytree Lodges

Friel’s is home to three Luxury Fairytree Lodges, and we spent a wonderful evening, getting away from it all, in ā€œOak Lodgeā€.

See all the content of our visit here :-

This compact, absolutely pristine lodge, with its contemporary country cottage interior sleeps three people in a Bunk bed and Double bed arrangement.

It has both a shower room, and separate toilet, a settee, kitchen, private outside seating areas front and back, with restful, idyllic countryside views; watching the antics of the donkeys kept us thoroughly entertained!

And hanging up inside the lodge we found bathrobes and slippers to use when luxuriating in the lodge’s covered Hot Tub, beautifully lit under twinkling greenery, with audio visual entertainment to enjoy whilst sipping a glass of fizz!

This was a delightful break away from the hustle and bustle, taking in  the picturesque rural setting overlooking the ancient Fairy Hill, and a one minute stroll took us to Friel’s bar and restaurant for a delicious evening meal and a nightcap before returning for a restful night’s sleep.
