mrDeanes

mrDeanes Bistro Bar & Social on Howard Street is Michael Deanes’ latest restaurant reinvention, offering several brilliant à la carte menus featuring many Deanes favourites. 

We recently enjoyed a terrific family lunchtime meal at mrDeanes. The snacks of Fried Whitebait & Citrus Aioli, Ham & Cheese Croquetas, and Deanes Breads & Butter were tasty small plates-perfect for sharing. 

To follow, the Deanes Crafted Pork Sausage with shallot, red wine & champ, and the Ardglass Beer Battered Scampi with salad, triple cooked chips & lemon aioli were comforting, crowd-pleasing dishes with a touch of finesse. 

From the vegetarian menu, the crispy Tempura of Vegetables with Ponzu Dressing was a light, tasty option, and as always, the seafood at Deanes is spectacular; perfectly pink Salmon on ratatouille with potato gnocchi & pesto, and a stunning special of whole Plaice on the bone in a silky, buttery sauce. 

And mrDeanes’ sweet treats are always worth leaving room for; we thoroughly enjoyed the decadent Chocolate Delice, the luxurious Sticky Toffee Pudding, and the Crème Caramel with tart raspberry sorbet. 

mrDeanes bistro serves delicious dishes using top quality ingredients, skilfully cooked, and beautifully presented, alongside an extensive drinks menu in an informal, modern space.

Baps

Baps, legendary smash-burger vendor, is just about to open its first stand-alone restaurant on Upper Arthur Street in Belfast’s city centre.

Fans of Baps’ fabulous street food will love the reinvented menu at its new, purple neon-lit sit-in outlet, featuring beef burgers, chicken, loaded fries, wings, veggie options, and some  rather naughty “Get The Baps Out” merchandise.

We were delighted to be invited to have a sneak peek at the new venue, and try out the menu. 

The Mango & Habanero Crispy Chicken Burger was a delicious sandwich with a gentle heat, the Spiced Chickpea was a veggie Masala Patty with curried aioli, mango chutney, veg pakora & pickled onion, and we had a fantastic Cheesy Gravy Chip on the side.

Featuring both male and female vocals, the band brings together a rich tapestry of instruments, including acoustic and electric guitars, bagpipes, whistles, fiddle, bass, and drums.

Since their formation, Pure Blarney has carved out a unique niche, offering a fresh traditional twist on beloved contemporary songs while honouring their folk roots. Their performances are characterised by the infectious energy and connection that runs through the band and its members, making every show a memorable experience.

The band has graced the stages of renowned festivals, including the Festival Interceltique de Lorient, Balver Höhle Irish Folk & Celtic Music Festival, and Belfast St Patrick’s Day Festival, captivating audiences with their dynamic sound and engaging presence.

Having been described as, “The craic was contagious”, “Absolutely fantastic from start to finish”, “Simply unreal”, “Pure perfection…great craic”, Pure Blarney will have you on your feet all night long and leave you craving one more tune.
