2Taps has been cooking up something special… the brand new 2Taps menu has just been launched!

With lots of traditional favourites, alongside fresh twists on the small plates concept, 2Taps has come up with a brilliant menu to please regular customers and new diners alike, and favourite dishes will be available all year-round alongside weekly specials, from bread baskets and albóndigas, to serrano croquetas and halloumi fries.

We were invited to try the new menu, and we were delighted to see one of our favourites had made a welcome return; we always love a plate of Flatbreads & Dips to nibble on while choosing our meal.

The seafood section is always top notch, and the Crispy Squid with mojo rojo sauce & pickled cucumber, the Whitebait with lemon & aioli, and the Gambas al Ajillo with garlic, chilli oil, & toasted sourdough, were all excellent.

The meat-free dishes were also terrific; spicy Cauliflower Wings with Korean hot honey, Padrón Peppers with sea salt & lime, a Three Bean Spanish Cassoulet with char-grilled focaccia, and a refreshing Caprese Salad with Heirloom tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella & sauce vierge.

And don’t miss out on the Burnt Basque Vanilla Cheesecake with rum & raisin ice cream-a delightfully authentic taste of Northern Spain.

Villa Italia

Villa Italia, a pizzeria and restaurant in the Queen’s Quarter, has been a Belfast institution for nearly four decades, and the queues which form on a regular basis outside the listed Georgian building are testament to its huge popularity.

Read more, photos and video here :-

The interior, with its nods to a traditional Italian trattoria, has terracotta tiles, marble statues, draping grapevines, and decorative murals, and the menu features stone-baked pizzas, authentic pasta, locally sourced meat & fish, and delicious desserts.

We called in recently with friends for a celebratory catch-up. One of our party was coeliac, and he was very impressed with the options available, including gluten-free pizza, pasta and sauces.

The pizzas were excellent; hand-stretched, crispy-based, and the Margherita with extra seafood toppings was terrific, as were the pasta dishes. The Tagliatelle with Smoked Salmon & Spinach in a creamy sauce, and the Linguini tossed with King Prawns, Calamari & Mussels in a light white wine & tomato sauce with chilli and garlic, were both very good indeed, and the Steak was also beautifully cooked.

And desserts are definitely worth leaving room for; a creamy Tiramisu, a wobbly, fruity Panna Cotta, a Chocolatey Ice Cream Sundae, a zingy Chocolate & Orange Cheesecake, and a homely Caramello Della Nonna- Villa Italia’s take on a Sticky Toffee Pudding.

This was a long overdue visit to this family-run Belfast institution, and we thoroughly enjoyed the delicious Italian dishes.

We were delighted to receive a hamper of fantastic products from Lidl’s Kickstart Class of 2025, a handpicked group of Ireland’s most exciting up and coming small producers, which hit the shelves last week.

And one of those great new products,  Pizzado High Protein Pizza Bases, challenged us to come up with a couple of tasty toppings for their deliciously fresh, hand-stretched pizza bases which are low in fat & salt, high in protein (25g per 100g), and 335 cals per base.

So here are our yummy Pizzado recipes!

Pizza 1: ā€œVeggie Pepperoniā€-a tomato base with sliced beef tomato, vegan pepperoni slices, and Barbavilla Dairy Smoked Provola (another fantastic Lidl Kickstart product!) drizzled with black garlic oil.

Pizza 2: ā€œNapoliā€-a tomato base with olives, anchovies, and grated cheese, drizzled with chilli oil and topped with rocket.

Buon Appetito!!
