Bright Umbrella launches new “Be You” leaflet celebrating its popular theatre, confidence and wellbeing project
Bright Umbrella Theatre Company has launched a new leaflet promoting its welcoming theatre-based volunteer programme for adults who want to build confidence, make new friendships, improve wellbeing and become part of a creative community.
Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, the new leaflet introduces Be You as a relaxed and supportive programme based at The Sanctuary Theatre, East Belfast, where participants can take part in weekly drama workshops, script work, mindfulness and wellbeing sessions, social activities, group work and optional performance opportunities.
The programme includes meetings every Monday at 7.00pm and is open to people with or without theatre experience. Participants can get involved on stage, backstage, front of house, in lighting and sound, set building and design, helping to run events, or simply by becoming part of the wider Bright Umbrella community.
The leaflet also highlights how the programme supports the Five Steps to Wellbeing: Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give. Through theatre and community participation, the programme aims to improve confidence, mental wellbeing, a sense of belonging and a positive outlook on life.

“It’s is about much more than theatre. It is about giving people a place where they feel welcome, valued and able to take part at their own pace. Some people want to perform, others prefer to help behind the scenes, and both are equally important. We are delighted that support from The National Lottery Community Fund has helped us create this new leaflet so more people can find out about the programme and feel encouraged to come along.”
The leaflet carries the message: “Be part of something creative. Be part of something supportive. Be You.” It invites anyone who would like to meet new people, learn new skills, boost their confidence or join a creative community to get in touch.
