This week’s Tuesday Goodie Bag features

🍽 Chipmongers

🍽 Coppi

Our accommodation of the week:

🔵 The Old Inn

Chipmongers

We recently popped back to one of our Portstewart favourites, the multi-award winning Chipmongers, at The Diamond, and had a terrific chippy tea with our Summer Theatre team.

Chipmongers sources its ingredients from local suppliers and has an ethos of “stripping it all back to a traditional Irish chipper with a modern twist.”

As well as great takeaway food, the restaurant has a sit-in area with its own menu. You can even bring a bottle of wine or beer to enjoy with the freshly prepared seafood.

We tucked into Chipmongers’ terrific Fish Suppers with perfectly golden, crispy batter and hand peeled & cut chips, and a superb Seafood Sharing Platter which included fillet of cod, Korean prawns, and Scampi, and came with a choice of chips and dips: more than enough for two to share.

And one of our party also enjoyed the “Sweet and Smokey Robinson”, a Southern Fried Chicken Fillet Burger with smoked bacon, mixed leaves, maple syrup, and chipotle, in a toasted brioche bun.

We loved returning to Chipmongers, an establishment which continues to be a cut above the ubiquitous “chippy”.

Coppi

It was our first visit to Coppi since this popular Cathedral Quarter spot had undergone a bit of a facelift and a menu refresh earlier this year, and we were as impressed as ever with the cool new look, and the delicious dishes on offer.

We ordered a few Antipasti to share; a special of Gnocco Fritto topped with caramelised Fig, Whipped Gorgonzola, and Honey, earthy Roast Beetroot on Torn Burrata with Cherries and Radicchio, golden Feta Fritters and Truffle Honey, a mini loaf of Coppi Focaccia with Datterini Tomatoes on Whipped Ricotta drizzled with Roast Garlic Oil, and an absolute must, the lemony Portavogie Prawns in Confit Garlic Butter with Sourdough.

We also loved the Kilkeel Crab Risotto with rich Brown Crab Butter, Guanciale and Charred Corn, accompanied by a side of Hispi Cabbage with a Burnt Chilli Butter.

Contemporary, intimate and relaxed in style, Coppi has been serving up superb Italian-influenced dishes since 2012, using the very best quality local ingredients.

The Old Inn

Nestled in the pretty Co Down village, The Old Inn is right on the doorstep of castles, beaches, a forest park & a top links golf course. It’s full of charm, character, & period features, & we spent the evening in the ‘Honeysuckle’ Junior Suite, with its nostalgic furniture, floral wallpaper & fabrics, & a stunning stand-alone copper bathtub. And The Old Inn’s Treetop Spa offers guests unrivalled forest views, whilst outdoor bathing, or relaxing in The Conservatory, with its woodfire stove.
