A delicious, Mediterranean inspired 6 Course tasting menu, was just the ticket to banish the winter blues and transport us to sunnier climes. A feast of Greek inspired dishes accompanied by perfectly paired wines, all served up in Gnostic’s gorgeous cosy upstairs dining room, this was a relaxed yet sophisticated celebration of great food and drink.

We started with a couple of excellent cocktails – the Gnostic Negroni has to be one of the best in Belfast, and we’ve had quite a few! Our first course whisked us straight to the Aegean, and immediately set the mood for the culinary journey ahead; Crispy Whitebait with Pitta and a piquant Taramasalata.

This was followed by a dish of golden Tomato Fritters with Olives, Feta & Rocket, and then an absolute classic, Dolmades with sour cream: stuffed vine leaves which were bursting with fresh herbs.

Although every course was faultless, our favourite was the crispy skinned Mackerel with Red Onion on a creamy bed of Orzo-totally stunning! We then had the veggie alternative to the lamb dish; a saucy, Roasted Tomato & Aubergine Kleftiko, which was satisfying and flavourful.

Luckily, we had just enough room for dessert; Bougatsa- a filo pastry delight stuffed with set vanilla custard and sprinkled with boozy raisins.
