As fans of Tim Burton, the creative force behind some of the most celebrated films of the last four decades, we couldn’t wait to visit this exhibition displaying examples of his work as an illustrator, painter, photographer, author, and of course his outstanding contribution to cinema.
The collection includes drawings, paintings, photographs, sketchbooks, moving-image works, sculptural installations, set, and costume design found in the fabulous characters and worlds in Burton’s art and films.
Some of our favourite pieces included the intricately detailed stop-motion puppets from The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride, the wonderfully gothic costume from Edward Scissorhands, and the gloriously camp Martian dress worn by Lisa Marie in Mars Attacks. And we loved the Snap AR experience which brought a unique aesthetic to the gallery.
