On Lower Ormond Quay, The Winding Stair, with its nod to the glorious Yeats poem, couldn’t have been a more fitting location to enjoy a delicious meal after the launch of Yeats Whiskey at the Abbey Theatre.
With its timeless charm and quintessentially Irish menu, The Winding Stair, overlooking the Liffey and the Ha’penny Bridge, serves seasonal Irish produce and excellent wines, with friendly, professional service in its iconic bookshop location.
We started with the superb “Winding Stair Fish Plate”, with Burren Smokehouse and Goatsbridge Farm smoked fish, homemade fish pâté, pickled herring, and chive crème fraîche, with moist treacle bread, cornichons, and caperberries.
To follow, Doyle’s hand-smoked haddock, poached in milk, with onions and white Cheddar mash, and a traditional Irish Boxty with Portobello mushroom, Sperrin blue cheese, walnuts, spinach, and a wild garlic velouté.
And the Winding Stair bread and butter pudding with whiskey sauce, was perfectly complemented by a glass of Lustau San Emilio Pedro Ximenez.
To quote WB Yeats’ ‘The Winding Stair’: “We must laugh, and we must sing, We are blest by everything, Everything we look upon is blest.”
And we were definitely blessed to stumble upon this culinary Dublin delight.
